Getting started

Your first day

Follow one clear path from setup to your first completed focus block.

Purpose

This page gives you the shortest path to first value. If you feel overloaded, do not explore every page. Just follow this sequence once.

When to use it

Use this page when:

  • you just signed in
  • you want a low-friction first session
  • you feel tempted to over-organize before doing anything

Step-by-step flow

  1. Finish Onboarding.
  2. Open Capture.
  3. Paste a simple brain dump like:
    • reply to the client email
    • book the dentist
    • finish the deck
    • figure out next steps for the hiring brief
  4. Press Capture.
  5. Review the Approval queue and use Approve or Reject.
  6. Open Today.
  7. If Brik asks for Check-in before execution, submit a quick energy and focus read.
  8. Review the recommended options and press Choose this task on the one that feels most startable.
  9. In the ready state, press Start focus block.
  10. Work until you can press Complete.
  11. If the task was a thinking task, use the follow-up screen to turn notes into action tasks.

What Brik is doing in the background

Your first day gives Brik the minimum useful signal it needs: what kind of work you captured, what you approved into the queue, how your current state looks, and what you were actually willing to start and finish. That is enough to make the system feel more personal on the second pass.

Common gotchas and reassurance

  • Do not wait for the perfect capture. The goal is movement, not a clean database.
  • If Brik recommends three tasks and none feel right, choose the one with the lowest starting friction.
  • If the timer goes into overtime, that is not failure. It only means the block took longer than planned.
  • If you complete only one block today, that still counts as a strong first session.
